Fabulous-slash-terrible news for the Bitter L...I have a procured a new job and will be leaving my cozy spot here on Main Street in quaint downtown Oconomowoc for the state capitol building in Madison come next week. I am ever so grateful for the opportunity to join my friend Joel Kleefisch (38th district - state assembly) as his legislative aid. The pay is twice what I make here and the benefits are grand....I will finally leave the ranks of the working poor with a salary above the federal poverty line. Praise God and ALL that is holy.
I am very verklempt though over leaving my friends here....my editor Gabe, who is way too smart for his own good and one of the funniest people I know...all the contacts and characters I've become friends with in my city beat and police beats...all the crazies who made working here a rare treat.....and most of all my buddy Donna who has been my shelter during the storm that has been my life post-divorce. My fellow ghoul and partner in all sorts of horsing around and daily lunch excursions. My friend for life who has replaced my mother as the person I tell daily about how I slept the night before, what I ate over the weekend, what the kids are saying and doing....all that stuff that no one but a family member would put up with discussing ad nauseum.
I am sure I will call her every morn when I get to my desk...if only to tell what she is having for lunch that day since that is one of my assigned roles in her queendom. She is the one who gave me a post in her cabinet as the Bitter Linguist when I first started here. I believe Gabe got the Duke of Cool position. Some of the laws she ushered in during my time here included, no spitting (that's very big, she said) and all Christmas lights must be taken down by New Years Day (she said she is willing for the more traditional among us to extend the deadline to Jan. 6 which is Epiphany). By edict she formed the Christmas Militia who will beat sense into anyone who violates this ordinance. She just asked me to please include that she is a benevolent queen, and by that she means that she's reasonable particularly if you see things her way.
Oh what will I do without these daily doses of insanity?
